It’s no secret that we love Salt Lake City. We also love food. As luck would have it, downtown Salt Lake has a thriving food scene where innovative chefs and dedicated restaurant owners work their magic to delight our tastebuds. Recently, we asked the followers of our Facebook Page to tell us their favorite places to eat in downtown, and wouldn’t you know, we had more comments on that post than any other in the history of our Facebook Page. The following is a highlight of some of our favorites and yours. Let us know if we missed your favorite!
1. Moochie’s Meatballs & More 232 East 800 South Salt Lake City With an owner straight from Philly, and a feature by Food Network’s “BEST OF Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” this is THE place to go for fresh homemade Italian food and the best Philly Cheesesteaks and meatball sandwiches in Utah. 2. Faustina 454 East 300 South Salt Lake City We recommending dining on the patio, under umbrellas and Japanese maple trees, on their secluded city patio. We love the way Chef De Cuisine Joe Kemp takes on traditional dishes and adds a sophisticated, modern twist to achieve a complexity of flavors. 3. Valter’s Osteria 173 West Broadway, Salt Lake City Arguably the best Italian food in Utah. Creative and charming chef/owner Valter Nassi wants one thing: for you to go home satisfied. And you will here. 4. Rye Diner and Drinks 239 South 500 East, Salt Lake City Expect not only good food at Rye, but good music as well: it’s owned by the same team that runs Urban Lounge—the music venue next door. If you’re there during a show, you can watch live video streaming of the concert. 5. Himalayan Kitchen 360 South State Street, Salt Lake City Traditional Nepali and Indian cuisine prepared with fresh ingredients by dedicated Nepali chefs. Mouth-watering curries, warm hand made naan, sizzling Tandoori grills, organic Himalayan coffee and more. Namaste. 6. From Scratch 62 East Gallivan Ave, Salt Lake City 7. Takashi 18 W Market St, Salt Lake City Pushing the envelope of contemporary Japanese cuisine, Takashi presents unrivaled sushi, sahimi and hot dishes in a memorable downtown setting. SLC’s most extensive selection of sake. Beer and wine. With a place this good, there will be a wait. 8. Alamexo Teri Hunter Eaton Tie for first place=@TuscanySLC and @Francks 9. Pago 878 S. 900 East | 801-532-0777 This artisanal-based, farm-to-table restaurant features both classics, like the nationally famous Pago Burger with pickled onions, and edgier fare like a carrot tasting which features the common vegetable five ways–raw, a confit, pickle, chips and a luxurious carrot mascarpone.
